The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has banned differential pricing of data services. On 8TH FEBRUAR 2016, TRAI published PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATORY TARIFFS FOR DATA SERVICES REGULATIONS, 2016.In this regulations TRAI say about Internet service providers in India cannot vary their tariffs on the basis of the type of content accessed by users.

In Section 3, chapter 2 of PROHIBITION OF DISCRIMINATORY TARIFFS FOR DATA SERVICES REGULATIONS 2016 defined as.
3 (i). No service provider shall offer or charge discriminatory tariffs for data services on the basis of content.
3(ii). No service provider shall enter into any arrangement, agreement or contract, by whatever name called, with any person, natural or legal, that has the effect of discriminatory tariffs for data services being offered or charged to the consumer on the basis of content:
Provided that this regulation shall not apply to tariffs for data services over closed electronic communications networks, unless such tariffs are offered or charged by the service provider for the purpose of evading the prohibition in this regulation.
3(iii). The decision of the Authority as to whether a service provider is in contravention of this regulation shall be final and binding. In other words, Internet service providers in India cannot vary their tariffs on the basis of the type of content accessed by users. This is one of supporting action of net neutrality is the principle that all online traffic should be treated equally from a pricing standpoint.
